COORDINATE CAPABILITY
Coordinate measuring technology allows fast, accurate, simultaneous determinations of two or three dimensional characteristics without need for special holding fixtures and with resultant time saving up to 80 percent.

This is the method of choice for measuring specific locations on castings and molded parts, and it is excellent for verifying geometric dimensions

SURFACE SOPHISTICATION
Precision limits of width, height, length, surface texture, and form are measured on extremely accurate surface plates using apparatus, such as manual and electronic measuring devices and specialties. Measurements accurate to five-millionths of an inch are achieved.

OPTIMUM OPTICS
Magnification instruments and comparators are used as alternate, non-contact measuring systems offering distinctive feature inspection of multiple characteristics. High magnification permits accurate detail measurements, and in combination with projection and surface illumination, allows simultaneous determination of profile and facial relationships.

CAREFUL CALIBRATION
100 percent traceable to the National Bureau of Standards
Primary masters are the key to the peaked, consistent accuracy in the processes of gage calibration at Precision Inspection, Inc., where expertise is totally concentrated and focused on dimensional gages and their applications. Precision calibration of gages conforms to government, military and industrial specifications.

Functional Gages
Certified inspection is provided for all types of functional gaging and fixtures, including receiver gages, built-up indicator gages, guillotine gages, special concentricity fixtures, etc.
Many customers have found this service particularly valuable for re-inspection of inactive functional gages prior to production runs of jobs with low frequency manufacturing cycles.
Prior-to-use inspection of complicated and expensive gages, built to company prints by outside vendors, prevents difficult disputes and assures satisfactory performance.
Along with accurate inspection and certification of functional gaging, Precision Inspection, Inc. offers design assistance and built- to-print services. Design assistance can vary from recommendation of gage type through a complete set of working drawings. As an independent service, Precision Inspection, Inc., is not "locked-in" to a particular brand or type of gage but rather selects the appropriate gage on the basis of best performance at the best price.

PARTS
MOLDED, CAST AND MACHINED PRODUCTS
From tooling design assistance,
through verification of new tooling by first-piece inspection, to random sampling of long-run production and independent third party inspection, complete measurement services are offered to manufacturers.

Reliable dimensional verification of two and three dimensional contours, feature size, patterns and locations, surface textures, part layout, and geometric positioning are all within the realm of services offered by Precision Inspection, Inc. Parts vary from miniature precision valve components to large compressor castings with tolerances of 50 millionths to one quarter inch.

PRODUCTION TOOLING
Inspection ranging from 100 percent dimensional measurement (to assure conformance to print) to partial inspection of critical characteristics, i.e. concentricity, surface finish, form, etc., with accuracy levels to 10 millionths can be on a one-time basis or an on-going tool surveillance program.

Precision Inspection, Inc. has successfully set up tool inspection programs under which the customer's vendor ships tooling directly to Precision Inspection, Inc. for acceptance inspection, reducing the burden on the customer's internal inspection department.
Customers often find that tooling programs can significantly reduce downtime and scrap while considerably increasing tool life.

DATA GENERATION AND DEVELOPMENT
Prototype parts or models are inspected to determine dimensional size and feature relationships. This data is extremely useful for N.C. tape generation or blueprint development/revision.

For example, we have taken an artist's layout of the logo for a national brewery and measured the X-V position of the contour of the letters. This data was used to produce a N.C. tape to machine a plastic molding die. In another case, a well-known maritime museum has used our service to measure a wooden half-model of a clipper ship and make a set of drawings from the data.

Dimensional capability of a process or machine can be provided by a special study or as a by-product of a regular inspection procedure. These data are useful in planning machine tool work assignments based on each machine's tolerance capabilities, and as a means of monitoring machine wear in a preventative maintenance program. Precision Inspection, Inc., in conjunction with several leading consulting firms, has provided inspection method procedures and recommendations for equipment purchases based on results of product component inspection.

GAGE CALIBRATION AND REPAIR

CALIBRATION
Precision Inspection, Inc. offers an extensive dimensional gage calibration service, including gage blocks, complete contract calibration programs, optical, electronic and mechanical comparators, thread gages, plain plug and ring gages, hand-held gaging, surface plates and accessory fixturing. All calibration is traceable to the National Bureau of Standards and in accordance with applicable Federal and Military Specifications. Precision Inspection, Inc.'s equipment is calibrated to MIL- C-45662A, and all calibration records are retained for a 15-year period. Gages are returned to the customer with a typed gage calibration card which includes the following: serial number of our masters, date and N.B.S. test number of their calibration, date customer's gage was calibrated, due date for recalibration, results of calibration, inspector's signature and applicable Federal or Military Specification. Those gages which are not within gage tolerance are called to the customer's attention. In keeping with our "single-source full-service" philosophy, a multi-brand replacement service is available.

GAGE BLOCK CALIBRATION
Two types of calibration are offered: standard and master. Standard calibration includes ultrasonic cleaning, reconditioning, another ultrasonic cleaning, followed by electronic comparison to master blocks calibrated by interferometry. Resulting size deviations are reported in millionths of an inch. Included is reporting of any block that has exceeded the parallelism tolerance in Federal Specification GGG-G-15b. Master gage block calibration differs from standard in that two sets of master blocks are employed and a series of comparison measurements are made on each block. The certification reports both deviation from nominal size in millionths and the actual parallelism of each block.

COMPLETE CONTRACT CALIBRATION
Contract programs are designed to relieve the customer of the burden of maintaining a gage calibration system. The customer is notified in advance which gages are due for calibration and arrangements are made to have the gages shipped or for our technicians to travel to the customer's plant. The following items are included in the program:

  • Gage Calibration Cards and Calibration Stickers
  • Manual Preparation
  • Recall System
  • Records Maintained in Accordance with MIL-C-45662A
  • Non-Proprietary Calibration Procedures
  • Gage Repair and/or Replacement
  • Precision Inspection, Inc. assists in determining which gages are economically practical to include in the program - and their calibration frequency.

REPAIR
Precision Inspection, Inc. also provides electronic and mechanical repair, thus offering customers a single source for their repair and calibration requirements.
Repair services are available on a diversified line of mechanical and electronic dimensional measuring equipment, including hand gages, indicators, calipers, electronic amplifiers gage heads, etc. All instruments are calibrated before shipment.
Precision Inspection, Inc. is an approved regional repair service for Brown & Sharpe, with authorization for the repair of gage heads amplifiers and read out electronics.
